31/10/09 Redevelopment

“Bidwill Trust Hospital is proud to announce a major redevelopment programme that will increase the hospital’s size by a massive 70%.” says hospital manager Val Flynn.

“The present hospital was built in 2001, but after nine years of a steady increase in the demand for private surgery we have outgrown our facilities.”

The new development is the culmination of two years of planning by the board and staff.
Christchurch architects Trengrove and Blunt have been appointed to design the new extensions and oversee the project. Tenders have been called and a decision on the successful tender is soon to be made. Building work is expected to commence in December and the project will take around 18 months to complete.

The new extension will encompass a purpose built day surgery unit with 14 beds. “The day surgery unit is expected to be far superior to most units around the county, patients can expect a private, spacious area with a bed, television and the excellent service Bidwill is renowned for.” says Bernadette East, Director of Nursing.

In addition to this a new theatre will be built bringing the number of operating theatres at Bidwill to three. The new theatre will be state of the art with all the latest technology.
